The UM School of Public and Community Health Sciences Offers Numerous Degree Options

SPCHS has a large number of public health degree program offerings including doctoral, masters, bachelors, and certificate programs.

The School offers a choice of two undergraduate degrees: a bachelor of science in public health or a bachelor of science in public and community health.

The School has four masters degree possibilities: a master of public health (MPH), a master of community health and prevention sciences (MS-CHPS), an MPH with a community health and prevention sciences concentration (MPH-CHPS), and a master of public administration/master of public health (MPA/MPH).

The MPA/MPH program is a joint degree option that allows a student to complete two separate degrees in a shorter period of time than that required if completing them separately.

Courses for the MPH degree choices at UM are on-campus in-person. Some electives  may be available online.

The SPCHS Ph.D. program requires applicants to have a Master of Public Health or equivalent degree. The GRE requirement has been waived for the Fall 2021 semester.

The Ph.D. degree at UM is a research oriented doctoral degree. It is intended for students who are aspiring to become public health professionals, tenure-track academic faculty, or researchers.

The PhD program is on-campus in Missoula. Students are required to work with their Research Advisors throughout the duration of the program.

UM also offers numerous public health graduate certificates. This list includes

  • Certificate in Public Health (CPH)
  • Certificate in Public Health Administration (CPHA)
  • Certificate in Epidemiology (CE)
  • Certificate in Environmental Health Sciences (CEHS)
  • Certificate in Global Health (CGH)
  • Health Behavior Coach Certificate

These certificate programs are offered completely online.
